Entries
To ensure a high caliber of work this is a juried show. Artists should submit samples
of their work, either digitally or by slide, for review by the jurors. The entry fee
is $20 for the first image, $10 for subsequent images to a maximum of three. Each
image must include: artist's name, title of the work, and size. Slides should be
marked with a red dot in the upper right corner for correct orientation. The images
along with the entry form, entry fees and a self-addressed stamped envelope (for
the return of images) should be submitted to complete the entry. Entries must be
submitted and received for selection by January 15th of the Festival year. Entries
received after this date will not be accepted. A maximum of twenty works will be displayed.
Successful candidates will be notified by February 1st.
Judging
The jury selection of works to be displayed will be done by three jurors. At
least one of the jurors has expertise in the media. These same jurors will
award the prizes at the show.
Display
During the show, accepted works will be displayed on a hard wall
or display easel. Each work will have a frame or easel mounted spotlight
supplied by the show. Artists are strongly encouraged to include a small
framed biography approximately 8½"x11" to be displayed along with their
accepted work. Security personnel will be present at all times during
show hours.
Prizes
Two Best of Show prizes will be awarded, a Jurors' Choice and a Peoples'
Choice. Each winner will receive a rosette and a $300 cash prize. First
and second runners-up will also be awarded in each category and will
receive a rosette and a $200 and $100 cash prize, respectively. Jurors'
Choice will be selected by the three jurors while the Peoples' Choice will
be determined by a viewers' ballot.
B. Sculpture
Sculpture entries to the show can be of any resilient medium (i.e. no wax,
putty or similar) and must be of a Western theme. Works should be no larger
than 4' x 4' x 5'.

C. Saddles
Saddle entries to the show must be full size, leather Western saddles.
There are two divisions in the saddle show, professional and amateur.
To qualify as an amateur, the saddle maker must not operate a saddle shop
and must not have sold more than 10 saddles in his career.

and a description of the saddle (i.e. size, tree, features, etc.). The photographs
along with the entry form, entry fees and a self-addressed stamped envelope (for
the return of photos) should be submitted to complete the entry. Entries must be
submitted and received for selection by January 15th of the Festival year. Entries
received after this date will not be accepted. A maximum of sixteen works will be
displayed. Successful candidates will be notified by Feb. 1st.
Judging
The jury selection of works to be displayed will be done by three jurors.
At least one of the jurors has expertise in the media. The final judging
will be done by a master Canadian saddle-maker (2009's judge will be Chuck
Stormes).
Display
During the show accepted saddles will be displayed with appropriate lighting
in the gallery hall on saddle stands supplied by the show. Artists are
strongly encouraged to include a small framed biography, including a description
of the saddle and its features, approximately 8½"x11" to be displayed along with
their accepted work. Security personnel will be present at all times during
show hours.
Prizes
There will be Best of Show, 1st and 2nd runner-up prizes awarded for saddle-making.
Best of show will receive a handcrafted buckle, and a rosette. Second and third
prizes will receive a rosette and $200 and $100, respectively. The prizes for the
amateur division will be $300, $200, & $100 and a rosette for Best of Show, 1st runner
up and 2nd runner-up respectively. There will be no
Peoples' Choice prizes awarded in saddle-making due to the technical as well as
artistic nature of saddles and the smaller number of exhibits.
D. Photography
Original photography of western themes will also be presented at the show. Pieces
presented for display must be framed originals no smaller than 16"x20" (unframed).

General Information For All Entrants
Shipping
The shipping of accepted works to the show is the responsibility of the artist.
Artists should ensure that accepted works arrive no later than March 6th at
Forster's Convention Centre, 1250 Rogers Way, Kamloops, BC. Ph.#. 250-372-5312.
At the participant's expense, the BCCHS will package and return unsold works
to participants not in attendance.
Sales
The BCCHS will handle the sale of any work for selected artists not attending
the show. A commission of 20% will be charged. For artists who would like to
exhibit and sell additional works by renting a booth in the trade show, no
commission will be charged.
Liability/Responsibility
Artists must certify that their submitted work is not a copy, derivative or based
on the work of others and is not in any way an infringement of copyright. Artists
are responsible for the insurance of their own work. The BCCHS will not be
responsible for the loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause.
Artwork is not insured while at the show. Artists must agree to allow the BCCHS
and/or Tanner Young Publishing Group to use images of selected works for publicity
purposes.
